Make Up of The Day: A Lesson in Contrasts

One of the most memorable tips i got from watching @jaclynhill was to pick makeup that would complement the clothes you're wearing. Pick colors that would not necessarily match them but would play off them. This resonated with me because i always thought the same. Although sometimes i do like to match my lip color or eyeshadow to my clothes, i usually would go for shades that go with them like blue with pink or (in this photo) violet with green. This philosophy, in my opinion, lends to a put-together ensemble that doesn't look too matchy-matchy and predictable. Review: Maybelline Rosy Matte in Salmon Pink

via Instagram http://ift.tt/1XjIAhv The Rosy Matte series is described in the maybelline website as a line of vivid shades with a creamy formula that provides full coverage and a matte finish. Honestly, I'm underwhelmed. Out of all the product's claims, the only one i found accurate was the creaminess of the formula. The rest were overstatements. I didn't find this pigmented enough to be called vivid. The coverage is also more aptly called sheer than full. It was difficult to apply this evenly. It kept leaving patchy spots all over the place even after several swipes. I got so frustrated that I think i broke the tube. Also, this is evidently not matte. Maybelline is a great brand. There are superb products in its roster. Sadly, there are unimpressive products as well like this one. Fortunately, if you fancy a nude pink lipstick, you won't have to look far.
